Alysh
Alysh is a traditional Kyrgyz belt wrestling style characterized by a fixed grip on the belt. It includes two divisions: freestyle, where leg techniques are allowed, and classic style, where the use of leg techniques is prohibited.
The history of Alysh belt wrestling dates back to ancient times. It is one of the oldest traditional sports of the Kyrgyz people.
Wrestlers wear special shirts in blue or green, white trousers, and a red belt. In the starting position, the athlete’s head rests on the opponent’s shoulder while closely observing the opponent’s leg movements from beneath their arms. The wrestlers grip each other’s belts, bending forward at the waist, with the right arm under the opponent’s arm and the left arm over the opponent’s right arm. The bout takes place only in a standing position. The objective is to throw the opponent onto their back while maintaining the belt grip.
