In 2012, the Bishkek Declaration was signed at the Summit of the Heads of Turkic States in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkey took part in the summit. This document started a new international project — the World Nomad Games.
The first Games took place in 2014. Kyrgyzstan held the first World Nomad Games and brought together about 500 athletes from 19 countries. It was the beginning of a new project that united sport, culture, and science in one place. The Games showed that nomadic heritage can become a base for modern cultural dialogue.
The competitions included 10 main disciplines and 4 demonstration disciplines.
Among them were horse competitions, national wrestling, and traditional intellectual games..
The competitions brought together 583 athletes, 188 coaches and judgesand 230 horses.
The opening and closing ceremonies took place at the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata.
An ethno-town was set up in Kyrchyn Gorge with aitys, concerts, craft exhibitions, and an ethno-bazaar.
More than 1200 people took part in the cultural program including artists, craftsmen, and creative groups.
A specially built Hippodrome, Cultural Center"Rukh Ordo"and Kyrchyn Gorgewhere the “Universe of Nomads” aiyl was setup.The area included stages, spectator zones, yurt complexes, eco areas, an ethno-bazaar, and interactive spaces open to all visitors.
