Kurash is the national wrestling style of the Uzbek people. Two opponents compete in a standing position on mats similar to judo tatami. Ground wrestling is not allowed—athletes must remain standing, and only throws and sweeps are permitted.
The use of strikes, joint locks, chokeholds, and any grips below the belt is strictly prohibited. These rules make Kurash a simple, clear, dynamic, and visually engaging sport, while also ensuring a high level of safety for participants.
