Kyrgyz Kurosh

Kyrgyz Kurosh is one of the oldest national forms of wrestling of the Kyrgyz people.

Historically, each people paid special attention to the training of valiant champions who represented their nation and defended its honor during military campaigns, as well as at major celebrations where competitions in traditional forms of wrestling held a central place.

Legends, parables, and historical documentary sources have preserved numerous accounts of outstanding wrestlers. Wrestling itself has become an integral part of traditional culture, the significance of which endures to this day.

Athletes stand facing each other on a special mat, holding their opponent’s belt with both hands. During the bout, the wrestler may momentarily release the belt with one hand. The winner of the bout is the athlete who succeeds in throwing the opponent onto their shoulders.
